A nice article from the Los Angeles Sentinel, March 16th 1972:
Shonte Penland was the envy of America’s teenaged girls during her recent celebration in which the Jackson 5 performed for them in an intimate recording session. The pretty, coquette daughter of Sentinel’s Entertainment Editor, Gertrude Gipson Penland, received the surprise of her life when Michael, Marlon and Randy Jackson presented her with a beautiful birthday cake and their newest, coveted and much cherished album, “I’ll Be There,” the latest by the lead singer, Michael. On hand for the ecstatic occasion (clockwise) were Nia Villahermosa, Randy Jackson, Vicki Lang, the honoree, Shonte, Michael Jackson, Marlon Jackson, Lori Grey, Kimberly Beavers (daughter of Sentinel Society editor, Jesse Mae Brown Beavers), and Bridget Jones. In addition to the special treat of sharing the Jackson-5 recording session, the girls were chauffeured to the Luau for lunch, more cake and ice cream, and more breathless partying with the famed Jackson-5
