I didn’t really find anything special in J5 history for October 22th but I think you are going to like this entry! I’m posting pictures of the J5 and Johnny playing basketball today.
This is the text that came with the photos (Right On! magazine, December 1972):
Can The Sylvers Beat The Jackson Five?
For some time now The Sylvers have been practicing like crazy on their basketball court for the big day when they meet The J-5 head on for the “big game.” Are The J-5 rattled by this challenge? “Aw, just send them over. We’ll play them any day!” Jackie told Right On! But until the day these two super-groups meet, we have some pictures of the boys getting it all together. While Leon, James, Ricky and Edmund Sylvers romp around their court, Tito, Marlon, Jackie and drummer/cousin Johnnie let us watch some of their skillful foot work recently too. What do you think? Can The Sylvers beat The Jackson Five? We’ll all just have to wait and see.

Though I don’t have any pictures to prove it, The J5 DID play the Sylvers sometimes. Here’s a little transcript I wrote from an interview from 1973:
Q: Oh really? Are you good friends with the Sylvers?
Jermaine: yeah, we play basketball and go to the park, play football and good things like that.
Q: Did any one of you guys ever tried to hit on any of the Sylver sisters?
Michael: laughing
Jermaine: No, the sylvers are hitting on one of my sisters.

Q: Tell me more about your relationship with the Sylvers, the Sylvers are fast becoming a popular group. You wanna go into, how long have you knew’em?
Jackie: for about a year now. They come over to the house and we play basketball all the time.
Q: Do you discuss music and so on?
Jackie: yeah, we get together and we meet at the park, the oldest boy and I, we get together. Leon and I we get together and mess around.

Jackie: right, right, really nice guy
