Christmas Charity part 1

Posted by raisa, 23 December 2012 · 1,412 views

In 1971, Mary Wilson of The Supremes and The Jackson 5, dressed up as santa claus, handed out gifts to hundred of youngsters at the Motown’s Christmas Party for underprivileged children in Los Angeles. Pictures of this events can be found here in our gallery.

I always found it a bit strange that they didn’t celebrate Christmas themselves and yet, they had a Christmas album, they once dressed up as Santa, they attended a Christmas parade in 1972,... I guess they didn’t really had a choice and I believe the boys didn’t really mind doing this kind of charity work for underprivileged children.

Ebony Jr. Published pictures of the party in December 1973 . Although the pictures were published 2 years after they were taken (and they wrongly labelled these pictures as pictured from a concert they did for the foundation of the Junior Blind in 1972), the cover picture does look like it was taken in 1973, I’ve always wondered if there were more of these pictures…
In the article, they also mention the charity concert they did for the Junior Blind the next day, December 24th 1971. I’ll come back to that concert tomorrow!
The brothers and Michael especially continued to help out others, and especially children, whenever and wherever they could. A pretty impressive list of charitable contributions can be found here, be sure to check it out!
IT’S ALL FOR L.O.V.E
